Sir,

Your communication of the 28th inst. relative to future provision for the Lunatics of the Asylum under your charge, and which you propose to meet by the pur-chase of Cotton, has been duly received by Genl. Polk, and he now directs me to say in answer to the letter above referred to, that he cordially concurs in your views therein expressed, and I am directed to authorize, as I now do your purchase of the Cotton you desire.—[?]. one hund-red bales—. for which when purchased. I will give you all the necessary protection, to Ensure its safety, and to guar-antee its application to the destined purpose. I am, Sir.
