Dear Governor,
Your esteemed favor was recd this morning: I would adopt your plan by getting Capt. Maury to receive the funds in preference to making the trip to Jackson in person, but I have several jobs of printing to do—The laws—a circular which Dr Waddel & myself have agreed on as necessary.
I thought I could get it printed & if I could remain til Wednesday I could distribute many of them to [County?] through the members ^of the County.^ The printing of the laws in this present condition would require a personal intern & then the bargaining for them & the address of Dr Waddell made me determined to go to Jackson myself.
I cannot get there before Tuesday morning—If you should leave before I get there I would be glad you would leave with W. Maury the drafts for the Int on the [sum?] to our credit & another for $6226.75 but under the act of 1848.
I would much prefer seeing you in person if it all Convenient if I come down.
I think my presence would be of advantage in promoting the interest of the University, during The Convention.
Yrs very truly
