Columbus, Miss Sept 11t 1866. Benj G. Humphris Esq Governor of Miss.

Dr Sir

As the Legislature is to meet next month, and the Mobile & Ohio R. R. have not yet been brought to reason, after Consulting with friends, have suggested a meeting at this place of those opposed to its present management to consult and lay before the Legislature such facts as we may be able to lay hold of.

Somethig must be done or the present Directors will own the road if possible. To show how fearfull they are of the people our p a fiend person got up a paper askng Abram Murdock not[Unline the last word] to resign his seat in the Legislature.

I believe the best place to cut off these men is to amend the charter of the road that those who have bought stock to control

the road be not permitted to vote the same, only 7 vote for every 10 shares till it reaches 100 shares Then our base for each hundred shares, something like this is the law of Old Virginia, to prevent large stock holders from imposing unjust times on small ones.

I enclose a copy of Notice Taken from "The Index" of this Place.

Complaining of Management of Mobile & Ohio R. R. and suggesting that the Legislature be resorted to for relief in the way of enactment of certain laws.
