Board met
Present Messrs Noble Elliott & Vonnegut
Also the superintendent and architect
The subject of the introduction of [Hillards] series
of reading books in place of the Willson series now in use
After protracted discussion the question was
postponed until the first of January next
On motion it was
Ordered that the architect
be instructed to advertise for proposals for painting
and glazing the new buildings in the 4th & 9th wards
the bids to be opened on Saturday the 22nd inst
Ordered that
the superintendent be authorized to advertise
for proposals for furnishing coal for the ensuing
year for all the public schools
A discussion arose
on the subject of a heating apparatus for the
new buildings No result
The superintendent gave
his reasons at length and recommended an add
ition to the salaries of teachers which was ordered on
the following basis
Resolved that the teachers be paid
two dollars a daily session for attendence on the monthly
meetings of teachers and one dollar where the attendence
is tardy or incomplete
Ordered that Messrs Draper
and Cochran be employed to construct a coal
house and privies on the new colony lot in the
5th ward
Ordered that on Monday morning next
the pupils belonging to the intermediate grades in
the eighth ward be dismissed until Monday the 24
inst or until the third story of the eighth ward building
is completed and ready for use
On motion the board adjourned
