some of his brethren, represented the great desirableness of such
a Union, and asked Dr. Jenkins to bring before his Synod a
request that they should appoint a Committee of three Ministers
and three Elders of their number to meet with similar Committees
who should be appointed by the other Presbyterian bodies in the
Dominion in Montreal in the September following, and confer on
the subject. This communication having been submitted in June
1870 to the Synod of the Presbyterian Church of Canada in connection
with the Church of Scotland a Committee, as requested, was
appointed to take part in the Conference proposed. Similar Conferences
were continued for several years, until, after full discussions,
the terms of the basis of Union were agreed upon, and these having
been accepted by the different governing bodies, the Union was
finally carried into effect in 1875, and all the Sections of the Presbyterian
Church were incorporated in One, to be called "The Presbyterian
Church in Canada."

By the terms of Union it was provided, that Queen's
College should stand to the Presbyterian Church in Canada in
relations similar to those which it formerly held to the Presbyterian
Church of Canada in connection with the Church of Scotland,
that the Board of Trustees and their successors
should continue the administration of its affairs, and that
