Colonial Committee. The Board being reminded
that at the end of this session the liberal grant which
was upwards of forty years has been given for the maintenance
of the Theological Faculty is to be withdrawn, desire
anew to record their deep sense of the obligations under
which the Institution and the Church whose interest
it was established to promote and indeed the whole of
the people of the Dominion, have been laid by the
liberal and generous policy pursued in this matter by
the Parent Church. They have endeavoured to carry
out the wishes of the Founders of the College, building
up in Canada an Institution modelled on the lines
of the Scottish Universities, which has steadily aimed at
inculcating and promoting in the New World the principles
and sentiments that have made Scotland great:
and feeling that in consideration of the rapid growth
of the Dominion in population and wealth, the
action of the Church in Scotland in withdrawing
this grant in order that she may be able to under the
more efficient aid to other feeble Colonial Churches is
not unreasonable, the Board cannot but regret the
severance of the tie which has so long bound Queen's
University to friends in Scotland and would be
much gratified if a connection could be maintained,
which would not imply dependence on the part
of the College, or serious obligation on the part
