institution immediately. The Committee therefore
recommend the Board of Trustees to divide the Chair of
Philosophy into two chairs, the one to be called Mental
and the other Moral Philosophy and to appoint Dr
J.W. Dyde to the former at a salary of $1200 a year, and
Dr Watson to the latter at his present salary of $2,250 a year.

The Rev Mr Barclay when in Britain during the summer
made full inquiries as requested and came to the
conclusion that the Rev John Macnaughton M.A. combined
better than any one else all the qualifications necessary for
the efficient discharge of a Chair in Greek. He will submit
the testimonials of Mr Macnaughton, to the Board, and as
the Committee has not had an opportunity of meeting Mr.
Barclay, it will be for the Trustees to decide whether any
action should be taken in the premises. The Committee
would not conceal from the Board that there is a certain
amount of financial risk involved in making these
additions to the Teaching Staff, especially in view of the
fact that it will also be necessary before long to strengthen the
Science side of the University. One addition was proposed
at last annual meeting. The Chair of Chemistry has so
enlarged its scope in connection with Practical and
Analytical Chemistry and Toxicology that it is necessary to
appoint an assistant to Dr Goodwin and the Committee
has been on the outlook for a man who would
be a useful assistant to him and at the same time
