and it was resolved that the following new scheme of
the Senate should be adopted, namely - That the session
should begin on the Wednesday of the week extending from
September 29th to October 5th, both days included, and that
it should close on the 30th Wednesday thereafter.

Besides the Medical Convocation which for the
second time was held this year, a special Convocation
was held for the purpose of inaugurating the Sir John A.
Macdonald Chair of Political and Economic Science, and
for the conferring of the honorary degree of LL.D. on Sir
Charles Tupper who delivered the inaugural address in the
City Hall. At the annual Convocation the following
day, at which Lord Minto the new Governor General
was present, to receive the degree of LL.D. the Chancellor
presented to the University a bust in terra cotta of Lady
Aberdeen. A Brass was also unveiled by Mr. Justice
Maclennan commemorating the services of Senator Gowan
and the other contributors to the Sir John A. Macdonald
Chair of Political Economy. Much regret was felt
at the news of the death of Mr. J.M. Machar which
took place shortly before the close of college. A son
of Rev. Dr. Machar, a former Principal of the University,
his name had been connected with Queen's since his
earliest years. From his first entering into College, he
had taken the keenest interest in every side of
University life, and at different times had lectured
