Chocolate Cake

1/2 cup cocoa
1/2 cup of hot water
2 level teaspoons Baking soda
stir this together and let stand
while mixing the following
3/4 cup butter or shortning
1 3/4 cup of sugar
2 eggs beaten separately
3/4 cup sour milk or buttermilk
2 1/2 cups flour sifted with 1/2 teasp salt
1 teaspoon vanilla
Cream sugar & butter
put in the well beaten yolks
put in the milk and flour alternately
than put in the cocoa mixture
and the flavoring
last fold in the beaten whites
