nomenon is so rare that his motives seem enigmatical, and almost insane. This instinct is perhaps the most isolated of any; it proverbially tends to "dry up" all others. Yet the desire for wealth is excited by every other desire, since there is no object of human desire whose acquisition is not facilitated by wealth, no matter how elevated and spiritual it may be.
