but proved to be grampas

Wednesday Aug. 8th, 1838.
All of these 24 Hours light airs from the
S. S. E. steering by the wind to the westward
untill 2 A. M. the wind hauled to the SW. Tacked
ship to the SE. at 8 Do. saw several shoals
of grampus whales but no Sperm Fayal bearing
N. N. E. 30 miles Dist. Peak of Pico Ely N. Dist. 23 miles
Hands employed in various jobs of ships Duty.
So ends
