with heavy showers of Rain

first part E. by S. steering S by W. at 10 P. M. the wind
Hauled Sudden to S. S. E. Ship Heading off to S W.
Latter Hours off to W. S. W. saw a Brig steering
to the N E

So ends.

Latitude Obs. 12" 49. North. Longitude by acc. 28" 10 west.

Friday, Aug. 24th, 1838.

Commences with strong breezes and squally attended
with wind & Rain wind from the South ship off
to W. S. W. from that to west. at 8 P. M. Tacked ship
to the S E. at 9 Do the wind increasing took in
the Top Gallant sails but split the Fore one
likewise the main Top Sail firled them and
double Reefed the Fore & Mizen.

middle Hours more moderate the wind hauled
to S W Tacked ship steering S S. E. set whole Fore
& mizen Top Sails & Top Gallant Sails.

Latter Hours pleasant unbent the main Top sail
& Fore Top Gallant Sails and bent others and
set them saw a Barque ship steering to the N. & E.

So ends.

Saturday Aug. 25th 1838.

Commences with moderate breezes and pleasant
weather wind SW steering S S. E.

at 4 P. M. the wind veered to the N W. set the
steering sails. Middle Hours the wind from the
N E and fair Latter it shifted sudden to
the S E ship off to S S W took in the steering
sails and Braced Sharp by the wind

this Day took out [6?] blbs of water from the after Hatch
Lower Hole and set it in the Blubber [Pour?] -

So ends
