Tuesday Oct. 30th 1838.

Commences with strong breezes from the westward
and clear at Daylight hooked onto our whale
the Hook tore out put on the Fin chain and
wore Ship with him to the Leeward found we
could not save the whole concluded to ware back
again and let him lay for better weather

middle & Latter Hours the wind hauled to the west
the gale increasing put on a piece of our chain cable
and let him Ride so ends.

Latitude Obs. 37" 27. South. Longitude per. watch 19" 30 west

Wednesday Oct. 31th 1838

Commences with strong gales from the northward
ship lying too Heading to the west

middle Hours the wind hauled to the west ship
off to S. S. W. Latter Hours more moderate set the
main Top Sail close Reefed at 5 P. M our whale
[Bust?]. So ends with fair hopes of a fair day on the
morrow.

Latitude Obs 37" 37 South. Longitude per. watch 18" 03 west.

Thursday Nov. 1th 1838

Commences with fresh gales from the west
and squally lying too by our whale at 11 A. M.
the wind Backening in to the north and
increasing Hooked on to our whale and cut
in the Body being obliged to let the Head go
at 4 P. M. wore ship and com__ced Boiling

So ends.
