Saturday Nov. 3th 1838.

Com ces with light breezes and squally with
a heavy swell wind west steering to the north
saw a ship to the East of us with her main Tack
down steering to the north. at 9 A. M. finished
Boiling. middle Hours light breezes and pleasant
Latter Hours calm. this Day saw several Fin
Backs but no Right whales water green
a few Flocks of Birds.

So ends.

Sunday Nov. 4th 1838

Commenced with moderate breezes from the north
and pleasant. at 4 A. M. saw 2 Right whales
lowered struck and killed got one Boat
stove took the Boat on board and the whale
alongside and cut him in

at meridian the wind hauled to the E. N. E. steered
by the wind to the northward untill 2 P. M. Tacked
ship to the S E saw several Fin backs but no Right
whales saw a ship to the west of us [rest of sentence obscured by a hand drawn silhouette of a spouting whale]
took in sail Heading S E.

So ends. Boiling
