Monday Nov. 5th 1838

Commences with strong breezes from the E. N. E.
and cloudy at 5 A. M. made sail steering
by the wind to the NW untill 8 Do. steered
of west middle Hours the wind increasing
and hauling to the north took in the Top gallant
sails and double Reefed the Top sails.

Latter Hours strong gales with squalls of Rain
took in the Fore sail and set the [Speacers?]
and put out the Fores. Saw several Fin backs
but no Right whales water green some Fowls.

So ends

Latitude obs. 35" 00. Longitude by rec. 17" 58. west

Tuesday Nov. 6th 1838

All of these 24 Hours strong gales first part
from the north ship lying too heading to the
west. at 2 A. M. the wind shifted sudden
to the west Tacked ship to the north
at 6 Do. set the Top Sails double Reefed
Saw a ship steering to the nroth

Middle & Latter Hours strong gales took
in Sail and close Reefed the main Top Sail
stowed the Fore Sail and set the speacers.

So ends.

Wednesday Nov. 7th 1838

Com__ed with strong gales from the west
and squally Ship lying too heading north
at meridian finished Boiling

middle to Latter Hours more moderate the wind
hauling in W. S. W. Tacked ship to the S. & E.
at 2 P. M. Spoke ship main of Fair Haven
[so Bib?] masters name not known. at 3 Do. Tacked
to the N. W. and set the Top Sails double Reefed
at 8 Do. set whole Top Sails & main Sail.

Saw not the spout of a whale this Day.

So ends carrying Sail through the night to the west

Latitude Obs. 34" 28. South Longitude per watch 18" 23. west.
