Commenced with strong breezes from the w. s. w.
and fair weather steering by the wind to the
n. & w. at 4 a. m. the wind veered to a w. by w.
Tacked Ship to the South.

Middle & Latter Hours more moderate and
cloudy this Day stowed down 40 bbls. or 7 Hhd. 1 [Tieze?]
1 bbl of Sperm. likewise 48 Do. of whale on the Larboard
side of the stearage Hatch Foward and 60 bbls
of whale on the oposite side Foward.

Saw not the Spout of a whale this Day water green.

So ends

Latitude Obs. 34"06. South. Longitude per. watch 18" 51. west.

Friday Nov. 9th 1838.

Com__ced

with light breezes from the n w. and
fair weather steering by the wind to the Southward
at 1 A. M. the winds hauled in SE. steered of W. S. W
untill meridian steered west. this Day saw a
large shoal of Fin Backs going W. N.W. saw no
other whales no Birds but few Fowls water green
Carpenter employed in repairing a stoven Boat

So ends

Saturday Nov. 10th 1838.

Com__ed with moderate breezes from the S E
and cloudy steering west.

Middle Hours the wind hauling in South steered
w. n. w. at 3 P.M. saw 2 Right Feeding lowered
and struck with with 2 Boats the Irons belonging
to 1 Boat came out and cut the Line off to the
other and away went the whale took up the
Boats and steered off w. n. w. untill 7 P. M. took
in Sail Heading w. s. w. saw no more whales
but Fin Backs this Day finished repairing
the Boat.

So ends.
