Saturday Nov. 17th 1838.

Commences with strong breezes from the westward
and a heavy swells at 5 A. M. made sail steering
by the wind to the Southward. at 6 Do. saw a shoal
of Sperm whales lowered struck 7 and killed
4. took them alongside and cut them in
3 ships in sight one of them whaleing.

So ends.

Latitude Obs. 35" 30. South. Longitude by acc. 23" 18. west

Sunday 18th 1838.

Com__ces with strong breezes from the northward
and cloudy at 5 A. M. made sail steering by
the wind to the Eastward at 7 Do. com__ced Sailing
at 9 Do. wore ship to the west hands employed
in cutting up the whales Heads & Flukes

Middle & Latter Hours strong gales took in sail
at 8 Do. Raining put out the Fires stowed the Fore
Sail and set the spancers. Saw 2 Hump Backs
but no Right whales.

So ends.

Monday Nov. 19th 1838.

Commences with strong gales from the west
with light Rain at 4 A. M. more moderate
set the Fore Sail at 5 Do. commenced Boiling
at 8 Do. set the Top Sails double Reefed steering
by the wind to the N. & W at meridian more
moderate set while Top Sails at 7 P. M. wore
ship and took in sail Heading SW
saw not the spout of a whale this Day
water green and any quantity of Fowls

So ends
