Wednesday Dec. 5th 1838.

All of these 24 Hours moderate breezes from the
south and pleasant steering north at 5 A. M.
1 Right whale going to the Eastward lowered
chaised but could not fasten took up the Boats
and steered off north spoke ship William Baker
of Warren Sanford master. 2 whales at 3 P. M. chaised
6 Right whales but could not fasten at 5 Do. chaised
about 5 more struck 1 and the Irons drew 10 minutes
after this Day saw about 12 whales they appear to
be gaming or vulgarly speaking Bulling 5 ships in
sight. 5 whaling hard and but 1 Boiling

water very light green no Fowls nor Birds.

at 7 P. M. took in sail heading E. S. E

So ends.

Thursday Dec. 6th 1838.

Commences with light breezes from the southward
middle & Latter Hours from the northward
at 8 A. M. saw 2 Right whales lowered chaised
but could not fasten found ourselves to the N. & E. of
the whales at 7 P.M. Spoke ship Phenix of Sag Harbor
E. Topping master. 6 whales Columbia of Do. F. Pierson master
1 whale Saw many Fin backs.

So ends.

Friday Dec. 7th 1838

All of these 24 Hours moderate breezes from the NE
and cloudy. at 4 A. M. made sail heading to the
eastward. at 6 Do. saw 2 Right whales lowered
struck and killed one took him alongside and cut
him in made sail again but saw nothing but Hump
& Fin backs. water green. 5 ships [words may be covered by the picture of a whale]
at 6 P. M. took in sail heading s

So ends.
