Tuesday, Dec. 11th 1838.

All of these 24 Hours fresh gales and smoaky
at 2 A. M. finishing Boiling at 4 Do. set the
top sails double Reefed steering by the wind
to the northward at 8 Do. Tacked ship to the
southward saw several Fin backs likewise saw 2
ships to the west steering to the south at sunset
saw 2 Right whales Feeding chaised but could
not fasten at 7 P. M. took in sail heading S. S. W.
this Day stowed down 55 bbls of Oil Fore Hatch Starboard [Fourd?]

So ends water green.

Latitude Obs. 36" 20. South. Longitude per. watch 25" 20. west.

Wednesday, Dec. 12th 1838.

Commences with strong breezes from the west and clear
at 4 A. M. made sail steering by the wind to the
northward at 6 Do Tacked ship to the southward
at 9 Do. tacked again to the northward at 6 P. M.
spoke ship Meteor of Groton Lester master 11 whales
at 7 Do. wore ship and took in sail heading
S. S. W. So ends saw nothing this Day.

Latitude Obs. 36" 22. South. Longitude per. watch 24" 52 west.

Thursday, Dec. 13th 1838.

All of these 24 Hours strong breezes from the north
and smoaky steering by the wind to the west at 7 A. M.
spoke ship Louisa of Lynn woolley master 2 whales
at 10 Do. saw 2 Right whales chaised but could
not fasten at 9 P. M. took in sail 4 ships in sight.

So ends.

Friday, Dec. 14th 1838

Commences with moderate breezes frm the west steering
by the wind to the South. at 8 A. M. Do. the wind veering to
the South tacked ship to the west middle & Latter Hours
light winds and calm at 4 P. M. saw 3 Right whales
chaised but without success. saw 2 Carcasses but no ships

water green so ends.

Latitude Obs. 36" 30 South. Longitude per watch 25" 03 west.
