Wednesday, Dec. 19th 1838.

All of these 24 Hours light airs and pleasant at 5 A. M.
saw a ship cutting. at 6 Do. saw 1 whale lowered
chaised but could not fasten at 2 P. M. chaised
but the same.

So ends Boiling

Latitude Obs. 36" 36 South. Longitude per. watch 24" 50 west.

Thursday, Dec. 20th 1838.

All of these 24 Hours light winds from the north and
Hazy attended with Fog & Rain at 7 A. M. saw whales
lowered struck and killed 1 sank him loosing 4 Irons
& 20 Fathoms of Line. at 10 chaised but without success
at 4 P. saw 2 struck one of them run bad and in
spading his Flukes cut off the Line and off went him
at 5 Do. finished Boiling saw a ship to the north of us
cutting & Boiling this Day saw about 8 whales apearing
at Home water Blue.

at 7 P. M. took in sail Heading w. by s [picture of a whale spouting blood]

so ends.

Friday, Dec. 21th 1838.

All of these 24 Hours fresh gales from the west and clear
at 7 A. M. set the Top sails double Reefed steering by the
wind to the southward at 8 Do. saw saw 2 Right
whales but did not chaise at 10 A. M. wore ship to the
northward this Day stowed down 85 bbls. of Oil in the main
Hatch Starboard side Foward. at 7 P. M. took in sail heading
north. 4 ships in sight 2 Boiling

So ends.

Saturday Dec. 22th 1838.

All of these 24 Hours strong breezes from the west and clear
at 4 A. M. the wind veered to the south steered to the Eastward
at 8 Do. saw 1 Right whale carred the Boat stern up and
missed at 2 P. M. saw another but started him at 4 Do.
spoke Barque Hanson [?] of Hudson Ballad master no oil
at 7 P. M. took in sail. So ends.
