Commences with strong breezes from the northward
and cloudy with light Rain. at 4 A. M. sail
steering by the wind to the Eastward at 8 Do. spoke
ship Connecticut Crocker master. 4 whales. this Season
at 9 Do. saw 1 Right whale chaised but could
not fasten. at 10 Do. spoke Barque Noble of James
Port Isac Sayr. master Boiling his 7th whale
middle Hours Fresh gales Latter Hours strong took in
sail heading w. S. w.

So ends

Latitude Obs. 36" 15. South. Longitude per. watch 25" 36 west.

Monday Dec. 24th 1838.

Com___es with strong gales from the north lying too
heading at the west. at 3 A. M. the wind veered to the west
ship off to S S. W. at 5 Do the wind hauled to the south
ship heading to the Eastward. at 10 Do. more moderate
set the Top Sails Double Reefed at meridian wore
ship to the west middle & Latter Hours more moderate
set whole Top Sails & Top gallant sails. at 4 P. M. saw
1 Right whale lowered and chaised but could
not fasten. at 7 P M. took in sail heading west
3 ships in sight one of them Boiling

So ends.

Tuesday Dec. 25th 1838.

Com___ces with moderate breezes from the north
and clear at 6 A. M. saw several whales chaised
but could not fasten. at 6 P. M. saw several coming
from the S w. and bound N E. Saw many Fin Backs
among them at 8 P. M. spoke ship Connecticut wanting
2 whale to fill her this Day saw about 12 whales all
going. Saw some of a redish cast.

So ends.
