Wednesday, Dec. 26th 1838.

Commences with fresh breezes from the west and
pleasant steering by the wind to the Southward
untill 1 P. M. tacked ship to the north.

middle & Latter Hours strong breezes spoke ship Hamilton
of Bridge Port Brown master 1,000 bbls. saw several
whales which were started. Saw many Fin Backs
at 8 P. M. took in sail heading N N. W.

So ends.

Latitude Obs. 36" 20 South. Longitude per. watch 25" 13 west.

Thursday, Dec. 27th, 1838.

Commences with fresh gales from the west and
clear. at 4 A. M. made sail steering by the wind
to the north at 9 Do. the wind veering to the south
ship heading up W. S. W. middle Hours the gaile
increasing took in sail. Latter Hours more moderate
at 6 P. M. wore ship to the Eastward.

So ends.

Latitude Obs. 35" 43 South. Longitude per. watch 25" 45 west.

Friday, Dec. 28th, 1838.

All of these 24 Hours light airs from the south
and Calm at 2 P. M. saw several Fin Backs
at 5 Do. saw 1 Hump Back chaised him but
could not fasten. 2 ships in sight but no Right
whales

So ends.

Latitude Obs. 33" 35 South. Longitude per. watch 25" 43 west.

Saturday, Dec. 29th, 1838.

Com___ces calm. at 3 A. M. the wind from the west
steered off S. S. E. saw 2 Right whales struck 1 of
them very bad and took the Line losing 3 Irons
and 1 Lance at 2 P. M. saw another chaised but
could not fasten. this Day saw about 6 Ships but
1 Boiling and 5 whales.

So ends.

Latitude Obs. 35" 46 South. Longitude per. watch 25" 48 west.
