Sunday, Dec. 30th, 1838.

All of these 24 Hours strong breezes from the NW and
cloudy at Daylight made sail steering by the wind
to the SW. at 8 A. M. tacked ship to the N. & E. at 9 Do
saw 4 Right whales lowered struck one another
Boat came immediately up and fastened with
1 Iron the whale then Sounded and both Boats
were loose the second Boat drew there Iron and
we judged cut the Line off to the other Boat
and off went the whale having 2 Irons well in and
5 Fathoms of Line. at meridian saw another whale
chaised but could not fasten at 4 P. M. tacked ship
to the SW. at 7 P. M. took in Sail heading W. S. W. 2 ships
in sight the whale apear to beat [Hone?] water green a few
Louse catchers about but no Fowls.

So ends.

Latitude Obs. 35" 55. South. Longitude per. watch 25" 25 west.

Monday, Dec. 31st, 1838.

All of these 24 Hours fresh gales gales from the N. W.
attended with Fog & Rain at 10 A. M. saw 1 Right
whale going fast NW. at 11 Do. saw another going
the same course did not chaise saw a quantity
of Feed of a yellowish cast water green.

at 7 P. M. took in Sail.

So ends.

Latitude Obs. 35" 50. South. Longitude by rec. 25" 40 west.

Tuesday Jan. 1th, 1838.

Commences with Fresh gales attended with Fog
& Rain at Daylight saw that had been Dead
about 24 Hours put on the Hawser and took him
alongside and commenced cutting turned the Fin
out and Hove up there being a large swell on
parted the Runner Hook lashing down went the Fin & Strap
and lost the Hook we then wore ship and cut him
to the Leeward losing the Head took 2 Irons out of the
whale marked E. S. middle hours the wind veered to the
west steered to the north [Silhoutte of a whale spouting blood]

So ends.
