Com___ces with fresh breezes from the west at Daylight
and Sail steering to the southward untill 9 A. M. tacked
ship to the northward middle Hours more moderate
the wind veering to SW by W. Latter Hours calm at 4 P. M.
saw 3 Right whales chaised but could not fasten

2 ships in sight. 1 cutting the main Tack down.

So ends.

Thursday, Jan. 3dth, 1838.

Com___ces with moderate breezes from the northwest
and clear at Daylight made Sail steering to the
west. at 7 A. M. saw 3 R. whales chaised but without
success. at 10 Do. saw 2 more and the same.

this Day saw about 10 whales the most of them
started by other ships. at 7 P. M. spoke ship Fanny Edward
master. 11 whales so ends.

Latitude Obs. 35" 48. South. Longitude per. watch 25" 32 west.

Friday, Jan. 4th, 1838.

Com___ces with fresh gales from the north attended
with Fog & Rain at 7 A. M. set the Top Sails double
Reefed steering by the wind to the west. middle Hours more
moderate. Latter Hours the wind hauled in nw tacked
ship to the N. & E. Saw 2 carcasses but no whales.

this Day stowed down 90 blls. of Oil in the main Hatch
Starboard side Foward

So ends.

Saturday, Jan. 5th, 1838.

Commences with moderate breezes from the northward
and Foggy made sail steering to the NE. untill
meridian Tacked to the west. middle & Latter Hours
fresh gales with Fog & Rain saw not a spout
this Day. at 7 P. M. took in sail heading w. s. w.

So ends.
