Sunday Jan. 6th 1838.

Commences with strong gales from the northward
ship lying too heading to the west. at 2 A. M. the
wind hauled to the west from that to the Southward
at 7 Do made sail steering to the west

middle & Latter Hours more moderate at 2
P. M. spoke ship Columbia of Sag Harbor
F. Pierson master 4 whales.

Saw no Right whales this Day and but one Fin
Back. So ends.

Latitude Obs. 36" 10. South. Longitude per. watch 26" 14 west.

Monday Jan. 7th, 1838.

All of these 24 Hours moderate breezes from the N E
and fair weather made sail steering to the north
at 10 A. M. saw 2 Right whales chaised but
could not fasten. at 2 P. M. saw about 20. 5 or 6
in a Bunch lowered and struck 2 of them after
being fast awhile. 1 Boat drew and the other had
there Line taken saw more chaised but could not
fasten. So has been our Luck to Day.

at 5 P. M. spoke ship Marcus of Sag Harbor -
Benjamin Glover master 1,000 blls.

So ends.

Tuesday, Jan. 18th, 1838.

All of these 24 Hours moderate breezes from the
north and Foggy attended with Rain.

at 4 . M. made sail steering by the wind to the
west. at 8 Do. tacked to the Eastward saw the
Marcus Boiling at 6 P. M. spoke ship Amazon of
Fair Haven wanting 1 whale at 7 Do. wore ship
to the west and took in sail

So ends.
