Wednesday, March 20th, 1839.

All of these 24 Hours strong breezes first part
clear middle & Latter Hours cloudy steering S E. by S.
at 10 A. M. made the Island of Tristand Acunha bearing
SE by E 15 miles Dist. Saw many sea Fowl & large
quantities of whale Feed of a Yellow cast.

So ends.

Latitude Obs. 37" 00 South. Longitude per watch. 12" 03 w

Thursday, March 21th, 1839.

Commences with strong breezes from the N. & E. and
cloudy running down to the leeward of the Island
of Tristand. when under the South side sent in 2 Boats
after the Skins of Sea Elephant & Fishing and lay off & on
with the Ship while on Shore killed about 12 of them
took most of the Skins with the Liver & Tongue
then shoved off and caught 3 blls of Fish and
returned to the Ship and steered SE.

middle & Latter Hours strong breezes and cloudy.

So ends.

Latitude by acc. 38" 20 South. Longitude by acc. 10" 45 west.

Friday, March 22th, 1839.

Commences with strong breezes from the N E and
cloudy steering SE. middle & Latter Hours more
moderate and Foggy the wind veering to the N W.
Set the steering Sails at 6 P. M. commenced pumping
Ship. at 8 Do. suceded in freeing her at Daylight went
over the Bows and found the Oakum entirely out
for about 2 feet in length filled it with Oakum about
the wood ends put on a coat of Lard parceling and
then nailed on a Strip of Sheet Lead.

Hands employed in knotting Yarns.

So ends.
