Commences with fresh gales from the W. N. W. and
Squally Steering E. S. E.

Middle Hours light winds with Squalls of Rain
Latter Hours Calm and a large Swell from the
west.

Carpenters employed making a Top mast Steering Sail Boom
of an Old Top Sail yard.

So ends.

Latitude Obs. 38" 40. South. Longitude per watch 95" 20. East.

Tuesday, April 30th, 1839.

Commences with strong breezes from the SW. and Squally
Steering E. S. E.

Middle & Latter Hours fresh gales the wind veering to the
west carryed away the main Top Gallant yard.

Carpenter employed in making a new one of the Fore
Top Sail Mast.

The Ships Compasses still appear to have some attraction
that I cannot account for unless it is in the air they
at times flying 1/2 Round and no ways steady in good
weather or bad. Heavy or light compass the same.

So ends.

Wednesday, May 1th, 1839.

Commences with fresh gales from the SW Steering
E. S. E.

Middle Hours more moderate the wind veering
to NW. Latter Hours fresh gales and cloudy
Sent down the main Top Gallant mast to refit the Rigging
for a new one likewise a yard.

So ends.

Latitude Obs. 38" 30. South. Longitude per watch 102" 45. East.
