and fair weather steering E. by S.

at 2 P. M. discoloured the water but no appearance
of Land.

Monday, May 13th, 1839.

Commences with pleasant breezes from the W. N. W.
and clear Steering E. by S. untill 2 P. M. Steered E. N. E.
untill 9 Do. hauled too by the wind to the North with
the Main Top Sail Aback at 10 Do. Tacked Ship
to the South. at 2 A. M. to the North at Daylight
Steered of E. N. E. at 9 A. M. made the SW. Cape or Van
Diemans Land bearing N E. Dist. 25 miles the Cape or
Land is very high and mountainous.
at 10 A. M. Foggy with an occasional light up or char
Spot the Ground looking barren hauled off E. S. E.

Sent up the Fore Top Gallant Yard and bent the Sail.

So ends.

Tuesday, May 14th, 1839.

Commences with light airs from the west and
Foggy Steering S E by E. at 4 P. M. calm

middle Hours calm and clear

Latter light airs from the NE. and fair weather
Steering by the wind to the S. & E. at 9 A. M. Saw
the Land bearing North by calculation 35 miles
Dist. So ends.

Wednesday May 15th 1839

Commences with fresh gales and clear wind
NE. Steering by the wind to the Eastward.
middle & Latter Hours cloudy with light Rain

So ends.
