by the wind to the west. at 4 P. M. the wind veering
to the North tacked Ship Steering S. by E.

Middle Hours the wind veering to the South tacked
Ship to the west.

Latter Hours fresh gales and cloudy.

So ends.

Latitude Obs. 47" 20. South. Longitude per watch 165" 32. Eas

Saturday May 25th, 1839.

Commences with fresh gales from the South Steering
by the wind to the west.

Middle & Latter Hours more moderate the wind
veering to the west and cloudy Steered E. S. E.

So ends.

Sun Obsure. Latitude by acc. 47" 33. South Longitude by acc. 166" 20. Eas

Sunday, May 26th, 1839.

Commences with fresh gales from the west and cloudy
Steering E. S. E. at 2 P. M. made the Snares bearing
SE. 40 miles Dist hauled up and run down [within?]
1 mile Dist on the North side I find the Island to be
high covered with grass and but little wood a small
Chain of Rocks a Distance from the west end
running out in that drection with on High one Low
on the North Side 1/4 mile Dist from the Shore.

Middle Hours clear.

Latter Hours cloudy the wind veering to the South
and light Steered NE. by N.

So ends.

Sun Obsure. Latitude by acc. 47" 40. South Longitude by acc. 168" 59. East.

Monday May 27th, 1839.

Commences with airs from the South and cloudy steering
NE by N. at 10 P. M. the wind veering to the west Steered
N. N. E. middle & Latter Hours clear at Daylight made
the Land bearing SW 48 miles Dist. the Land hereabout
is quite smooth or not mountainous as the west side.

So ends.
