Sunday June 9th, 1839.

Commences with fresh gales from the E. Heading
in for the Land at Daylight made Sail and ran
to 3 Fathom water saw nothing and hauled off
middle Hours smoaky attended with Rain

Latter Hours the wind increaseing took in Fore & mizen
Top Sails and close reefed the main

Ship Heading E. N. E in company with Ship Atlantic of
Warren Howland master likewise Barque Favorite of
Fairhaven Swift.

So ends.

Sun Obscure. Latitude by acc. 44" 44. South. Longitude by acc. 171" 35. East.

Monday, June 10th, 1839.

Commences with fresh gales from the SE lying too Heading
to the Eastward untill 8 A. M. tacked Ship to the west
Barque Favorite and Ship Atlantic in company

Middle Squally with light showers of Rain

Latter Hours the wind veering to the South and clear saw
the Land bearing w. by S. 45 miles Dist. at 7 P. M. tacked Ship off
Shore the carpenters employed in fitting a new Boat for whaling

So ends.

Latitude Obs. 44" 40. South. Longitude per watch 171" 33. East.

Tuesday June 11th, 1839.

Commences with fresh breezes from the S E. lying too Heading
in Shore to the west at Daylight made all sail run in
to 8 Fathom water saw 2 Right Whales lowered struck
with 2 Boats. 2 of the Irons drew and one broke off went
the whale at meridian chaised again but without Success
at 4 P. M. Saw 6 lowered Struck one and killed took him
alongside put on the Chain made all Sail to drag him off
Shore.

Latter Hours light airs and cloudy ship Heading E. S. E
Ship Atlantic in company Barque Favorite in Sight.

So ends.
