Thursday, 15th, 1839.

First part fresh breezes from the NW. steering by the
wind to the S. & W.

Middle & Latter Hours from the west at 7 A. M. Saw
a Shoal of Sperm whales struck one and killed
took him alongside and cut him in saw the Falcons
Boats fast but were soon loose.

Latitude Obs. 30" 50 South. Longitude by acc. 177" 20. west.

Friday, Aug. 16th, 1839

All of these 24 Hours fresh breezes from the west
and clear Steering by the wind to the Southward
at 11 A. M. Saw a Shoal of Sperm whales chaised
but without Success. Saw 3 Ships to the NW. of us
Hands employed in cutting up the whales Head.

So ends.

Latitude Obs. 30" 32 South. Longitude per watch 177" 14. west.

Saturday Aug 17 1839

Commences with light airs from the west and clear
Steering by the wind to the South at 4 P M Saw a
Shoal of Sperm Whales far to the windward but did
not give Chaise at 5 Do. commenced Boiling
middle Hours the wind hauled to the west untill 10 A. M. tacked
Ship to the S. & E.

So ends Boiling

Latitude Obs. 30" 59 South. Longitude per watch 176" 51. west.

Sunday Aug. 18th, 1839.

Commences with Strong breezes from the west and cloudy
attended with Rain. middle Hours Calm.

Latter Hours fresh gales from the west and clear
Saw a large gam of killers and a few Fin Backs

So ends Boiling.
