to the North. Middle Hours calm finished Boiling
Saw a Shoal of Black Fish lowered struck
and killed 2 took them in Saw Several Fin
Backs Latter Hours calm with a large swell from
the west. water green Saw Some whale Feed. few Birds.

So Ends.

Latitude Obs. 30" 18 South. Longitude per watch 176" 30. west.

Tuesday, Aug. 20th, 1839.

First part fresh gales from the NE. Steering SW
at Daylight made the Curtis Rocks bearing NW
30 miles Dist at 8 A. M. Hauled by the wind for them
middle Hours the wind veering to the North Tacked
Ship for the Rocks Hands employed in driveing &
filling up the Oil.

Latter Hours cloudy attended with Rain

So ends.

Latitude Obs. 30" 40 South. Longitude per watch 178" 14. west.

Wednesday, 21th, 1839

Commences with light breezes from the Northward
Steering by the wind to the westward untill 7 A. M.
Steered off NW. made Macauleys Island bearing N W by N
25 miles Dist at meridian finished stowing our Sperm
Oil in the main Hatch on both sides Aft of which there
was 14 Casks 5 of Head 9 of Body Oil at 4 P. M. run down
on the NE Side of the above Island sent in two
Boats found an abundance of wild Hogs gooats
and Some few Dogs shot 3 averaging 100 lbs each
and caught one alive likewise 2 goats Saw 3 Ships
off to the NW. middle & Latter Hours pleasant laying
off & on for the Night.
