clear steering by the wind to the Eastward
Saw Several Fin Back whales water Blue few Birds
& Fowl 2 Ships in Sight Steering to the Eastward.

So ends.

Latitude Obs. 31" 09 South. Longitude per watch 174" 51. west.

Saturday, Sept. 7th, 1839.

First part light winds from the Southward and Calm
Middle & Latter Hours moderate breezes from the Eastward
Steering S. S. E. in company with Ship Mercury of Stonington
Smith Master and Ship Lydia of Salem Ramsdel
master Saw 2 more Ships Steering to SE.

Saw a few Fin Backs & Fowl no Birds.

Latitude Obs. 31" 26 South. Longitude per watch 174" 38. wes

Monday, Sept. 8th, 1839.

Commences with moderate breezes from the Eastwrd
and fair weather made Sail Steering by the wind
to the S. & E. Middle & Later Hours more moderate
Steering to the S. & W 8 Ships in Sight boing in different
directions water Blue and Barren.

So ends.

Latitude Obs. 33" 01 South. Longitude per watch 174" 15. west

Monday, Sept. 9th, 1839.

All of these 24 Hours fresh gales from the Eastward
made Sail Steering by the wind to the North untill
10 A. M. Steered off west at meridian spoke Ship
Panama of Sag Harbor Crowell master 1,000 blls.
and cutting a large Sperm whale at 2 P. M. hauled
by the wind to the Southward.

So ends.
