First part light airs from the South at 4 A. M
the wind hauled to the Eastward at 5 Do.
made Sail Steering W. N. W untill 11 Do. hauled
by the the wind to the S. & E. Middle & Latter Hours
moderate breezes and pleasant saw whales
carried one of the Boat [steerers?] between two darted
and missed the whales this appear to be going in
E. N. E. at times Breach out and lay with there Fins
out for a while appearing like whales just on as
they are. water Dark green no Bird and but few Fowl
1 Barque Ship in sight Boiling.

Friday, Oct. 4th, 1839.

First part strong breezes from the Eastward heading
to the South at 3 A. M. the wind hauled to the
North tacked Ship to the west set the Top Sails
double Reefed. Middle & Latter Hours fresh gales
with Rain tacked Ship to the Eastward and
took in Sail saw no whales this Day one Sail in Sight

So ends Boiling.

Saturday, Oct. 5th, 1839.

First part fresh gales from the North heading to
the Eastward Middle & Latter Hours more moderate
the wind veering to the South Steered off NE. by No.
untill 7 P. M. took in Sail Heading west
Saw 1 Right whale that appeared to be started
3 Sail in Sight at 8 P. M. finished Boiling.

this Day stowed down 215 blls. of whale Oil in the
main Hatch Larboard side Foward
