Thursday Oct. 10th, 1839.

All of these 24 Hours fresh gales from the Eastward
and Squally at Daylight hooked on to our whale and
cut him to the Leeward. at 9 A. M. finished made sail
steering by the wind to the Southward untill 10 Do.
tacked Ship to the N. & E. Saw 2 whales chaised them
but could not fasten at 1 P. M. Tacked again to
the Southward Saw many whales to the Eastward
but nothing to the west except 3 Ships that have not
made a manuever this Day so wear on the western
edge of them. at Sun set took in Sail heading S. S. E.

So ends Boiling

Latitude Obs. 33" 20 South. Longitude per watch 172" 56 w

Friday Oct. 11th, 1839.

All of these 24 Hours fresh gales from the Eastward
and clear at Daylight made Sail steering by the
wind to the South Saw 2 whales lowered struck
one killed and sunk him loosing 3 Irons and 30
Fathoms of Line took up the Boats and wore
Ship to the N. & E. untill 1 P. M. tacked Ship to the
Southward. Saw nothing more but Fin Backs and 2 French
whalers. this Day stowed down 80 blls of Oil Steerage
Hatch Larboard Side Foward at 7 P. M. took in Sail
heading S by W. at 11 Do. finished Boiling. [Silhouette of a right whale with "Sunk" written above it.]

So ends.

Latitude Obs. 33" 10 South. Longitude per watch 172" 56 west.

First part fresh gales from the Eastward at Daylight
made Sail Steering by the wind to the S. & W. at
8 A. M. more moderate the wind veering to
the South tacked Ship to the Eastward Saw several
Fin Backs but no Right whales 5 Ships in sight
and none of them Boiling nor whaling

Hands employed in clearning Bone. & &.
at 7 P. M. took in the Top gallant Sails and steered
by the wind to the Eastward.

So ends.
