Ship France cruiseing for whales on the off Shore gro

Sunday, Oct. 13th, 1839.

First moderate breezes from the Eastward
Middle Hours from the South Steering by the wind
to the Eastward Latter Hours light airs from the west
carrying all Sail through the Night and [avouring?] to
get to the S. & W. where we saw 6 Ships 4 of them Boiling
and 2 Cutting but we have seen no right but 1 Fin Back
this Day.

So ends.

Latitude Obs. 32" 53 South. Longitude per watch 172" 33 west.

Monday, Oct. 14th, 1839.

First part Strong breezes from the west steering
by the wind to the South. Middle Hours the wind
veering to the South tacked Ship to the west at
11 A. M. saw 4 whales lowered struck 2 killed
1 and drew from the other took the Dead one
alongside and cut him in made Sail again
and Steered to the NW. Saw several whales
Struck and killed one took him alongside and
lay by him through the Night Latter Hours light
airs from the Eastward Heading N N E and making
a NW. by W. drift.

Tuesday, Oct. 15th, 1839.

All of these 24 Hours fresh breezes from the Eastward
and fair weather at Daylight commenced cutting
our whale at 9 A. M. finished made all sail steering
by the wind to the S. & E. at 1 P. M. Saw 2 whales
chaised but without Success at 3 Do. saw 3 whales
struck and killed 2 took them alongside and
Lay by them through the Night Saw 2 Ships
to the west take a whale
