All of these 24 Hours fresh breezes first part from
the Eastward at Daylight commenced cutting our
whales at 8 A. M. Saw 1 whale chaised with one Boat
but without Success at 10 Do finished cutting Set whole
Top Sails and wore Ship the wind veering to the
North ship heading E. S. E spoke Ship Haleon of
New Bedford with 6 whales. middle & Latter Hours
strong breezes at 6 P. M Saw 2 whales feeding chaised
but without Success saw several off to the SE.
but did give chaise at 7 Do. took in Sail heading
E. S. E. 3 Ships in sight.

So ends Boiling.

Thursday, Oct. 17th, 1839.

All of these 24 Hours strong breezes from the North
at Daylight made Sail Steering by the wind to the
Eastward at 6 A. M Saw several whales lowered
struck and killed one took him alongside and
cut him in made Sail again and wore Ship to
the Eastward Saw more whales chaised but without
Success Saw 3 hips get a whale each.

the whales are now all feeding and will I expect
soon leave for another quarter as the feed is in
sight or near the surface of the water.

this Day Stowed down 60 blls of Oil in the storage
Hatch Larboard Side Foward.

Friday, Oct. 18th, 1839

All of these 24 Hours strong breezes from the North
and clear at Daylight made Sail steering by
the wind to the west at 8 A. M. Saw 3 whales struck
and killed one took him alongside and cut him
in and lost our Fin Chain. at 7 P. M. took in Sail head.
