Ship France whaling on the off Shore

Sunday Oct. 27th, 1839.

First part Strong breezes from the west steering by the
wind to the North the wind shifted suddenly to
the SW. made all Sail steering to the west at 10 A. M.
Saw 4 whales chaised but could not fasten Saw
the Barque Favourite of Fair Haven to the South
of us. Middle & Latter Hours light airs carrying Sail
to the west. at 5 P. M. spoke Ship Matilda of London
haveing taken 1 whale Since we last saw her.

So ends water green 7 Ships in Sight.

Latitude Obs. 34" 34 South. Longitude per watch 173" 20 west

Monday, Oct. 28th, 1839.

First part fresh breezes from the South steering
by the wind to the west. Middle & Latter Hours
the wind Hauled to the west from that to NW
tacked Ship to the S. & W. Saw a Ship to the west
of us Boiling at 3 P. M. Saw 2 whales chaised
them but without Success.

So ends this Day.

Tuesday, Oct. 29th, 1839.

All of these 24 Hours pleasant breezes from the
NW and fair weather Steering by the wind to the
S. & W. untill 10 A. M. Steered E. S. E. at 11 Do. spoke Ship
Thames Hedges master 6 whales Ship Torn of Sag Harbor
7 whales Ship Ann Maria of New London 3 whales
at 7 P. M. took in Sail and Steered off E. S. E through
the Night. Saw 10 Ships this Day but no whales.

So ends.

Wednesday, Oct. 30th, 1839.

First & Latter part Cloudy middle Hours clear at 8 A. M.
Saw a Dead whale took him alongside and cut him
in made Sail again Steering by the wind to the S. & W.
at 2 P. M. Saw a live one Struck and killed him took
alongside and let him lay through the Night
