Wednesday, Dec 4th, 1839.

All of these 24 Hours fresh gales from the North Steering
by the wind to the Eastward untill 7 P. M wore
Ship to the west and took in Sail Ships Ann Maria
& Erie in Sight. Saw nothing this Day.

So ends.

Latitude Obs. 45" 18 South. Longitude per watch 178" 10 west.

Thursday, Dec. 5th, 1839.

First part fresh gales from the North and Squally
with Rain lying too heading to the west untill 10 A. M
the wind hauled Suddenly to NW tacked Ship
to the NE. Middle Hours Saw 1 Right whale chaised
but without Success. Latter Hours light airs carrying sail
through the Night Ship Ann Maria in company.

Saw many Fin Backs & whale Birds water green.

So ends

Friday Dec. 6th, 1839.

First part strong breezes from the NW. steering by the
wind to the N. & E. Middle Hours more moderate
Latter light airs the wind hauling to the South
at Sun Set Saw 1 Right whale chaised but without
Success Ship Ann Maria in company Steering NW. by W
through the Night.

So ends.

Latitude Obs. 45" 20 South. Longitude per watch 176" 51 west.

Saturday, Dec. 7th, 1839.

First part light airs from the South Steering NW. by W
at 6 A. M. Calm Middle & Latter Hours light airs
from the west Steering by the wind to the N. & E
at 3 P. M. made Chatham Island bearing N. by E. 35 miles
Dist. Ship Ann Maria in company. Saw many Flocks
of Whale Birds feeding but no whales water green.

at 10 P. M. Shortened Sail and stood off & on through
the Night So ends.

Latitude Obs. 44" 38 South. Longitude per watch 177" 02 west.
