Saw a Shoal of Sperm whales lowered struck and
killed two took them alongside and steered off
west. Ships Hourly Leak 900 Strokes.

Thursday, Jan. 2th, 1840

All of these 24 Hours light airs from the Eastward
and fair weather Steering west at 7 hooked on to
our whales at 10 A. M finished.

at 1 P. M. Saw a Shoal of Sperm whales but going
very fast did not chaise. Ships Hours Leak 900 stro

So ends Boiling.

Friday Jan 3dth 1840

First part light airs from the E. S. E Middle & Latter
Hours pleasant breezes from the East Steering W by S.
at 4 P. M. finished Boiling Ships Hourly Leak 900
