at 7 A. M commenced cutting our whale at 9 Do
finished. Ships Hourly Leak 1000 strokes.

Sunday, Jan. 12th, 1840.

First part fresh breezes from the North and Cloudy
Steering by the wind to the west.

Middle Hours Calm. Latter Hours Strong breezes
from the North and clear Steering W. by N.
at 3 P. M. finished Boiling.

Ships Howerly Leak 1000 strokes.

So ends.

Monday, Jan. 13th, 1840.

First part fresh gales from the North and Cloudy
Middle & Latter Hours more moderate with Rain
at 6 P. M Saw a Ship to the North Steering to the
Eastward. Ships Howerly Leak 1,000 Strokes.

Tuesday, Jan. 14th, 1840.

First part fresh breezes from the North with Rain
Steering W. N. W at 4 A. M the wind hauling to the
Eastward and increaseing Double Reefed the Top
Sails the Ship labouring hard Middle Hours found
an unsual working of the Bowsprit likewise Head
Knees on examining them found the gammering
to the former so as to be of no Support and the
latter with the Knees sprung off from the Rail
owing to the working of the Ships Head and fearing
more damages took in Sail and Hove the Ship too
under close Reefed Main Top Sail & Spencers Heading
N. by W. Ships Hourerly Leak 1100 Strokes. Latter Hours modera
made Sail Steering NW. So ends.
