First part Strong gales from the SW. and
Squally lying too heading to the SE.

Middle & Latter Hours more moderate and
clear the wind veering to the South tacked
and made Sail Steering by the wind to the west.

So ends.

Latitude Obs. 42" 57 South. Longitude per watch 178" 18 East.

Sunday April 26th 1840.

First light airs from the SW. at 8 A. M. the wind
hauled to to round to the North steered
SW. by W Middle & Latter Hours fresh breezes
at 4 P. M passed a Sperm whale having to all
appearance been Dead about a month.

at Sunset Saw a Sail to the west.

So ends.

Latitude Obs. 42" 50. South. Longitude per watch 177" 56 East.

Monday April 27th, 1840.

First part moderate breezes from the North Steering
by the wind to the west. at 2 A. M. the wind hauled
Suddenly to the west and increaseing from that to S. SE
and blowing heavy wore Ship and took in Sail
heading West at 10 A. M. set Double Reefed Top Sails
Middle & Latter Hours more moderate the wind
veering to the Eastward Steered SW. by W.

So ends.

Latitude Obs. 43" 05. South. Longitude per watch 175" 35 East.

Tuesday April 28th, 1840.

All of these 24 Hours fresh breezes from the North
Steering S. S. W at 5 A. M made Banks Peninsula
bearing SW. 25 miles Dist at 10 Do. Saw a French Ship
Steering to the N. & W at 11 Do. Steered South at 1 P. M
hove too of Hackeroa Bay Sent in a Boat at 3 Do
She it returned there being two American and two
French Ships in at Anchor. at 4 Do. spoke Ship
Heroine of Fair Haven Smith master 1300 blls of
of Oil at 5 P. M. took in Sail heading East.

So ends.
