Monday March 4th, 1840.

All of these 24 Hours fresh gales from the Southward
and Squally lying too heading to the Eastward
untill 1 P. M. wore Ship and made Sail
Steering W by N at 2 Do. spoke Barque Cherokee of
New Bedford Cook master 2500 blls at 3 Do bent another
main Top Sail.

So ends.

Latitude Obs. 45" 07. South. Longitude per watch 175" 49. East.

Tuesday March 5th, 1840.

First & Middle part Strong gales from the Southward
Steering W. by N untill 3 A. M. took in Sail and wore
Ship to the Eastward. at 8 A. M. wore back to the
west. Latter Hours more moderate.

So ends.

Latitude Obs. 43" 20. South. Longitude per watch 176" 02. East.

Wednesday, May 6th, 1840.

First part strong gales from the Southward lying too
heading to the westward at 6 A. M the Snowy Mountains
bore W. N. W. 45 miles Dist at 7 Do. the wind veered
to the west tacked Ship to the Southward saw
a Sail Steering to the N. & W.

Middle & Latter Hours strong gales and Squally

So ends.

Latitude Obs. 42" 59. South. Longitude per watch 176" 30. East.

Thursday, May 7th, 1840.

First part fresh gales from the west heading to the
South. Middle & Latter Hours more moderate the
wind veering to the South tacked Ship to the
west at 4 P. M spoke Ship Heroine of Fair Haven
Smith master 1500 blls.

So ends.

Latitude Obs. 43" 22. South. Longitude per watch 176" 28. East.

Friday, May 8th, 1840

All of these 24 Hours light airs from the NW Steering
by the wind to the SW.

So ends.
