Wednesday May 20th, 1840.

All of these 24 Hours calm at 1 P. M. weighed
anchor and towed the Ship to the oposite side
of the Bay to take in our wood.

So ends.

Thursday May 21th, 1840.

First part calm took on board our wood
Middle & Latter Hours light airs from the north
made Sail and run back and came to
anchor off the [Huts?] in 6 Fathom water at 7 P. M
gave 8 men liberty to go on Shore at 12
they returned with the exception of the Second
Mate William Beffen and 3 men who deserted
and cursed is he that gives it a thought.

So ends.

Friday May 22th, 1840.

All of these 24 Hours light airs from the north
and fair weather took on board 1 1/2 Ton of
Potatoes. So ends.

Saturday May 23dth, 1840.

All of these 24 Hours Strong breezes from the
North and cloudy at 10 A. M. weighed anchor
and run out of the Bay at 11 Do. passed the
Heads and steered SW Hands employed
in stowing the anchors & Cables at 3 P. M. Saw
a Right whale going in for the Land
chaised but without Success at 6 Do. hove
too off the Sand Beach for Daylight.

So ends.

Sunday May 24th, 1840.

All of these 24 Hours calm the current having carried
the Ship about 20 miles to the North or well
into the bight of the Peninsula at Sunset the
SE. point of the Peninsula bore NE 20 miles Dist.
we should be rather jambed with a storm
from the SE. but hope for the better.

Saw nothing but Land this Day.

So ends.
