Monday May 25th, 1840.

First part light airs from the west and cloudy
Spoke Ship Elisabeth of Haver cutting a Sperm whale
Middle & Latter Hours strong breezes Saw several
Right whales going fast for the Land did not
chaise at 8 P. M. Steered SW.

So ends.

Latitude Obs. 44" 48. South. Longitude per watch 173" 22. E

Tuesday May 26th 1840.

All of these 24 Hours Strong gales from the SW
at 4 A M took in Sail and Hove the Ship too
heading to the SE. while firling the Fore Sail
Francis Turner fell from the yard on Deck and
expired in about 3 Hours without a groan.

So ends.

Wednesday May 27th 1840.

First part fresh gales from the SW made Sail
Steering by the wind to the S. & E. at 10 A. M.
hauled up the Courses and hove the Ship too
with the head yards aback at 10 1/2 AM committed
the remains of Francis Turner to the Deep
Middle Hours more moderate Latter the wind hauled
to the Southward Tacked Ship to the west.

So ends

Thursday May 28th, 1840

First part fresh breezes from the North Steering west
untill 9 A. M. W. by N at 10 Do. made Cape Saunders
bearing W. N. W 25 miles Dist. Middle Hours light airs
at 1 P. M the wind hauled Suddenly to the South
and light. at 4 Do. tacked Ship off Shore.

at 9 Do. the wind veered to the SE. at 10 Do. it hauled
to the NE. tacked Ship to the S. & E.

Latitude Obs. 45" 30. South. Longitude per watch 170" 45. E
