On my arrival
here on Saturday, I found your letter of
invitation to witness the ceremony of
laying the corner stone of the principal
building of the University of the South --

I would be much gratified to be pre-
-sent on the occasion, but as circum-
-stances will require my presence in

of a short period, I am compelled to
forego the pleasure
