Fruit Cake
1 C butter | 3 lbs raisins |
2 C sugar | 2 lbs currants |
3 C flour | 1 lb citron |
1 C water | ½ t nutmeg |
½ C molasses | ½ t ground cloves |
4 eggs | 1 t cinnamon |
scant ½ t soda | 1 t salt |
Mix as layer cake and bake in a slow oven 3 hrs.
Clam Chowder
2 C any vegetable in season (carrots, turnips, cabbage, par-
snips, onion, peas, beans, celery)
4 C water
2 C clam broth
1 C tomatoes (strained)
1 doz clams cut into pieces
3 slices bacon or salt pork

Prepare vegetable, cut into small pieces
