Fruit Cake


1 C butter 3 lbs raisins
2 C sugar 2 lbs currants
3 C flour 1 lb citron
1 C water ½ t nutmeg
½ C molasses ½ t ground cloves
4 eggs 1 t cinnamon
scant ½ t soda 1 t salt

Mix as layer cake and bake in a slow oven 3 hrs.

Clam Chowder

2 C any vegetable in season (carrots, turnips, cabbage, par-
snips, onion, peas, beans, celery)
4 C water
2 C clam broth
1 C tomatoes (strained)
1 doz clams cut into pieces
3 slices bacon or salt pork
Seasonings

Prepare vegetable, cut into small pieces
