Cream butter, add sugar gradually
and cream well. Stir in dry ingredients,
which have been sifted together. Roll and
pat dough on floured board to ⅓"
thickness. Cut in desired shapes, and bake
on ungreased cookie-tin, in 350° for
20-25 min or until delicately brown.
Walnut Date Slices
1 c. shortning | 1 t salt |
2 c. dark brown sugar | 1 Tb vanilla |
2 eggs, beaten | 1 Lb. pitted dates |
3⅓ c. sifted all purpose flour | ⅞ c. orange juice |
2 t. baking powder | 2 Tb. honey |

Cream shortening and sugar together.
Add beaten eggs, and beat well. Grad-
ually add flour, sifted with b.p.
salt and mix thoroly. Add vanilla, form
into 2 rolls 3" in diameter, wrap in
waxed paper, and chill overnight in ice box.
