Sift flour, soda and salt. Melt
choc in double boiler, add ½ C.
sugar and ½ C. milk. Stir until
thickened. Cool. Cream shortening
add 1 C. sugar gradually, while
creaming. Add eggs and beat. Stir
in choc mixture. Add flour alter-
nately with 1 C. milk and vanilla.
Pour into greased 9½" tube cake
pan with waxed paper on bottom
Bake in 350° oven 1 hr and 10 min.

Ice Cream Sauce


1 C. heavy cream ⅓ C. melted butter
1 egg
¾ C. gran. sug. 1 t. vanilla
pinch salt

Whip cream stiff. Beat egg
until light. Add sugar and salt and
beat well. Add melted butter grad-
ually, beating constantly. Add vanilla
fold egg mixture into whipped cream
chill in refrigerator. [..?] about ½
