Status: Needs Review

[MS 1603]
with the advice of the Executive Council
has been pleased to give me a regrant of everything
legally mine at the time of my August [indecipherable]
I expect to get an Official notice to that
effect in a few days when I will have to
lead the lion quietly in his den, for any
cattle which are for the worst part quietly
guarded in his stud paddock & stamped
with his A. (brand name) those that were unbranded
at the time he took them & those that
have been calved since I will have (crossed out word)
some difficulty in getting ^ if at all^ which will be
a serious lost to me, as they are very choice
bred cattle the progeny of two cows, one 12 months
other 3 months old that escaped his clutches
I sold to a friend of mine for 60 guineas for
stud purposes.
Mr Bennett is coming to pay my father a [vigil?]
for a week about the first of next month when
I shall fully know from him how I am ^to^ act with
regard to any trespass cases & false imprisonment
I understand from him that Mr Drivers has
[sentenced?] a [strict?] [search?] through to my case
& gives a very favourable report as soon as

the case is [fairly?] established. I shall put back
the whole matter from beginning to end &
feel it a duty incumbent on me to show how
justice is often expressed in the interior
by the long purse, & many an innocent man
doomed to years of imprisonment.
You ask in your epistle what are we to do
for those so unfortuanate? Can I in anyway
be of any use in furthering your [motives?] ?
if I can I shall be only too happy in getting
those who aer able to excercise influence in
aiding you. If so be kind enough to let me
know at once & when Mr B [Bennett?] comes I shall
speak to him, whatever he takes in hand
he will faithfully perform.
I [indecipherable] often think of the poor fellows who are
undergoing that dreadful punishment
& many undeservedly. It will even be
indelibly impressed on my mind & heart
I will never forget the goodness of Almighty
God in delivering ^me^ from the lions den
If I come to Sydney shortly, I shall take a
run up to Berrima & then I can acknowledge
in person your kindness

to get them a mitigation of
sentence numerously signed
it got 63 Gentlemen to sign it
it got one magistrate the
Revd [Reverend] Mr Hawkins likewise
Mr Dean from what I see of
Mr Charles West he is acting
a true friend for my son
Thomas so it would feel obliged
to you if you woul tell my
son thomas so and be kind
enought to answer this as soon
as convenient and by so
doeing [doing] you will greatly oblige
your heartbroken correspondent
